One of our biggest commercial projects to date has been the recent transformation of Colchester’s old court rooms into a new sports bar, showing all the most important games live from around the world.
Creating the ultimate sports bar means installing the ultimate AV and entertainment package, so we decided to split the project into 2 phases.
The first involved 4.5 days’ work at the beginning of August to ensure the courtroom element of Courts Sports Bar would be fully kitted out in time for the start of the Premier League season on 12th August.
Having assessed the site in July, our engineers were able to get straight to work, installing 4 distribution amplifiers, 3 HD over coax modulators (which is a new process to enable the viewing of HD TV via a coaxial cable)…
… a satellite dish …
…and TV links to control the Sky boxes in the comms cupboard from the bar. We also configured 3 HD televisions on the balcony* and prepped the cables, amplifiers and modulators we’d need for Phase 2.
There was a slight curveball when we discovered the 2 TVs that had already been installed in the top bar needed to be configured and connected to enable Sky and BT Sport to be controlled from the downstairs bar. This was a problem we soon solved with a bit of extra planning.
Phase 2 is due to take place at the start of September and because the bar is already open for business, we’ve taken great care to ensure minimal disruption will be caused when that work takes place.
We’ve already prepared the cabling for the additional 8 HD TVs we’ll be configuring in the courtroom bar during Phase 2, so it should be a simple case of plugging them in and away we go.
The great thing about this job was that it came to us thanks to a recommendation from the Sky engineer. It’s always nice to hear you’ve been recommended!
*Digital Dimensions did not install any brackets or televisions as this had already been done.
