There are few things as frustrating in life as dreadful TV signal. Whether it’s in the middle of your favourite TV series or big sporting event, the last thing you want is for your signal to interrupt your viewing pleasure. However, not all signal issues require an emergency callout. Sometimes, the problems are simpler than they first seem.
So what can you do to fix your signal, and in turn save money?
1. Check Freeview/Freesat Cables
It may seem a little obvious, but it is always worth checking that cables are all connected properly to your Freeview or Freesat box. The difference between a good and a bad signal can depend on whether any cables have come loose, so also check.
2. Check Exterior Cables
There’s not much that you can do about Mother Nature and if a bird or rodent elects to chew your exterior cables then your signal can be affected. It is always worth checking your cables to eliminate this as a possibility, but remember to be safe if climbing a ladder.
3. Check Positioning
If your aerial is pointing in the wrong direction due to changes to receivers, then your signal will obviously suffer. The best method of checking this is to examine the positioning of other aerials in your neighbourhood. If you’re facing in a different direction to everyone else, it would be safe to assume, this may be the cause of the problem.
4. Ask Your Neighbours
If your neighbours are experiencing similar problems, it may suggest problems with the area in general, in which case a newer aerial may be the solution in order to combat the environmental issues. Speak to your neighbours about their experiences first.
5. Retune Your Set Top Box
Sometimes it really is that simple, especially if the box was set up a few months previously. Always be sure to consult your manual before retuning.
