Wall Mounting Your TV the Right Way

posted in TV & Film by

Getting a TV for Christmas this year? You lucky devils.

And what better way to enjoy that fantastic Christmas TV schedule then with your TV mounted on the wall, for the whole family to enjoy? But what do you need to remember before you begin your little DIY project this Christmas? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.

Check Safety

Ok, let us first say, that if you are mounting your TV this Christmas, have a think about safety. Are you mounting your TV onto a wall that can actually support it? Is the power all turned off in areas that you will be drilling or cutting? Have you read the instructions? We simply ask, that you think carefully before you act too hastily.

Getting the Right Equipment

There’s no fix all checklist that we can offer you, but we can offer the advice that you ensure you purchase all of the equipment that you know you need beforehand, rather than have to make various trips to your local hardware shop throughout the project. Check your TV specs online to make sure you get the right bracket, and pick it first.

Where to Mount Your TV?

Okay, so so far it’s all been a bit obvious, here’s where the real science is. Have you got a place in mind as to where you would like to hang your TV? Here’s a few things to check.

  • Screen glare – what can look like a dream spot can soon become a nightmare if the lighting is wrong, and we promise, you will never just get used to it. Think about the natural light in the room, but also the lamps and lighting.
  • Wiring – Remember that you have to plug this TV in somewhere, and if it is miles away from the nearest plug point, then you are going to have to contend with wires spread across your living room….nobody wants that.
  • Screen height – Something to check when you first choose your TV, is the image or colour distorted at all at different angles? This should dictate the height of your TV on the wall, and save you having to stand up half way through your new Star Wars Blu Ray to see Darth Vader announcing he is Luke’s father.

So, go out, get some popcorn, get some drinks, and get the sofa ready for that pastime that we all love at Christmas…hardcore TV watching.
